Partners with Chevron and other companies to extract fossil gas from the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and partially owns the East Mediterranean Gas Pipeline which illegally runs through Gaza’s waters.
NewMed Energy, formerly known as Delek Drilling, is a publicly traded subsidiary of the Delek Group. It is an Israeli energy company that engages in the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas in Israel, and invests in energy projects in Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Morocco. Its revenues reached $1.7 billion in 2025, about 60 percent of which was from fossil gas extraction.
The company co-owns the East Mediterranean Gas pipeline, which runs along the coast of the Gaza Strip and transports gas from Asqalan/Ashkelon in Israel to Arish in Egypt. While the exact location of the pipeline is classified, this pipeline is not under internationally recognized Israeli jurisdiction, and any economic gain in this area without Palestinian free and informed consent is illegal under international law
NewMed Energy is also the largest stakeholder in Leviathan, Israel’s largest fossil gas reservoir. NewMed owns 45.34%, and the rest is owned by Chevron and Ratio Energies. Leviathan provides fossil gas mainly to Egypt and Jordan, but also to the state-owned Israel Electric Corporation and private Israeli electricity companies. This gas is used to produce electricity for the Israeli power grid, which includes all Israeli military bases and government agencies, as well as Israel’s illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian and Syrian territories.
The supply of electricity across Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory is used as a tool of subjugation, collective punishment, annexation, and dispossession.
As part of Israel’s apartheid regime, some Palestinian communities inside Israel and across the occupied Palestinian territory are banned from connection to the grid; some are provided subpar services; some are charged differently than nearby Jewish-Israeli towns; and many suffer punitive power cuts as a form of collective punishment. This is energy apartheid.
